No doubt that as we approach the end of April we can say with certainty that spring has sprung! Hello sunshine, green grass, and temps back where we like them – in the 50s and 60s!
There are many signs of spring in southeast Michigan, and certainly here in the Plymouth, Canton, and Northville communities. This got us thinking how everyone has an opinion about what spring is or what really makes spring, well, spring.
Through the Eyes of Kids
We recently had an opportunity to wander through one of our local elementary schools within the fabulous and highly-regarded Plymouth-Canton Community School district. This is where we got a taste of just what spring meant to a certain bunch of third graders.
They were asked to write a poem in a certain form, beginning and ending with a sentence telling the important thing about spring. These first sentences were amazing, insightful, and straight from the heart. So much so that we knew right away that they had to be the focus of our last blog of April. Here are just some of the clever words that these bright youngsters wrote.
The Most Important Thing
“The important thing about spring …”
- is it is warm
- is that it is beautiful
- is that it is amazing
- is you can play outside
- is that it is green
- is flowers begin to pop up
- is the beautiful fresh trees
- is it has my birthday in it
And the last line of the poem had it’s own wisdom. It said, “But the most important thing about spring is that …”
- flowers bloom
- it is not snowy
- it is amazing
