I can’t think of anything nicer to do on a 70-ish degree day in May than to spend some time walking around town. Today, we took that walk at the Northville Farmers Market.
You can find the Northville Farmers Market in the Northville Downs parking lot located on the northwest corner of 7 Mile and Sheldon Roads. It was a busy place today, as shoppers enjoyed the warm sun … just like we did!
Now, we know from the Northville Chamber of Commerce that over 125 Michigan grown or Michigan made products are featured at the market. But, you have to go into these things with some realistic expectations of what the season offers. So, in the month of May, there won’t be much in the way of fresh veggies (they are coming, so don’t panic!). It’s just that we are at the planting end of the growing season around here at the moment, of course.
Today we scored with it being Flower Day. WOW, there were flowers! And plants of all sorts including herbs, perennials, and ornamentals. It was a very impressive display of high-quality plants offered by several vendors.
In the veggie department, Michigan grown asparagus was offered. Also available were honey, jewelry, soaps, baked goods, clothing, and really cute birdhouses. Gosh, there was no shortage of wonderful stuff to see. Oh, and let’s not forget that you can get a very tasty, casual lunch or cold drink there too!
We also have heard that a Master Gardener will be available 9 a.m. to noon, and a local chef puts on a demonstration every third Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Northville Farmers Market is really easy to get to and there is tons of parking.
It’s a really nice way to spend a Thursday morning … and lunch hour!
