Plymouth, Canton, and Northville residents have a lot of heart – that we all know! And here is one way that a Plymouth Township resident is giving back to the community through a local fundraiser for Stiggy’s Dogs charity. Read on to learn how you can support this cause with a dropoff donation at the Plymouth Library between February 18 to March 1. Here is what Plymouth Township resident and event organizer, Lia De Biasi, has to say about this event.
In Her Own Words
Each year, I hold a fundraiser in memory of my Labrador Retriever, Benjamin James, for a non-profit organization that aids in the well-being of animals. The past two years, the fundraiser has been for Stiggy’s Dogs. Stiggy’s Dogs is a nonprofit organization that rescues and trains shelter dogs to be psychiatric service dogs for military veterans living with PTSD or TBI. The psychiatric service dogs are trained and deployed at no cost to the veteran.
I fell in love with the organization because it encompasses two things that I am very passionate about: shelter dogs and veterans. Once I found out that Stiggy’s Dogs was founded in memory of Benjamin Phillip “Doc Stiggy” Castiglione, I knew it was fate. I plan to hold a fundraiser in memory of my own Benjamin in honor of another Benjamin every February.
Plymouth Library is the Hub
The Plymouth Library has graciously volunteered to be the drop off location for this donation drop. There will be a decorated box at the entrance of the building from February 18 – March 1 for donations. Donations range from trash bags and disinfecting wipes to steel dog bowls and kongs to bikes and treadmills. A complete wish list can be found on Stiggy’s website or the donation poster. Every contribution is greatly appreciated and immensely helps Stiggy’s Dogs.
If you are able to donate please write your name and address on a card taped to the donation so I can send you a personal thank you card as well as your tax deductible letter.
If you would like to learn more about Stiggy’s Dogs or make a monetary donation visit online at www.StiggysDogs.org. If you are making a monetary donation please write ‘Ben’s Birthday’ in the comment section when processing your payment so I can mail you a personal thank you card.
