Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail! All of your favorite characters are here in this stage adaptation of the Disney hit, including Aladdin, Jasmine, and of course, the Genie. Filled with magic, mayhem, and flying carpet rides, audiences’ spirits will soar with excitement. Most of all, the tuneful, Academy award-winning score with songs including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me” will certainly make this musical a favorite for many years to come!
It was a case of controlled chaos at the Village Theater last night as the cast of Disney’s Aladdin Jr. ran through the production in full costume. The rehearsal went on amidst sound technicians, lighting technicians, and scenery builders buzzing around, adding their last-minute touches before the show goes on this weekend, November 3-7. The countdown is on!
We did NOT sneak in! Really!
Just for the record, there was nothing sneaky about us getting into this dress rehearsal. One of our own is a parent of a cast member, so we were welcome to just settle in and enjoy. If these photos are piquing your interest, they should. This show has it all: singing, dancing, a true starry night, pyrotechnics, and, of course, a real flying carpet for the happy couple to cuddle up on as they really and truly sail off into the night.
The show features 120 area theater students (some as young as six!) who have been hard at work since about Labor Day to make this show fabulous. Surely you’ve heard of the popular Disney story. Well, it does not disappoint in the stage adaptation either.
Tickets are still available for the show that runs at Canton’s Village Theater this weekend, November 3-7.
Forever After Productions
The show is brought to us by Canton’s Forever After Productions (FAP). FAP prides itself on offering a positive theater learning experience for children, teens and young adults through productions such as Disney’s Aladdin Jr., in addition to theater and vocal classes.
Until recently, FAP held auditions, rehearsed, and built sets right inside the Village Theater. They have now expanded their operations and are proud to show off their new rehearsal center and main office across from the theater on Independence Street, with a Scene Shop now located on Rhonda Drive.
Of course, the show couldn’t go on without the amazing and dedicated parent volunteers whose job duties include everything from advertising, set construction (on a rather grand scale), sewing elaborate costumes, and backstage management of all sorts.
Yes, do bring the little kids!
This show is perfect for the whole family and an excellent way to introduce younger children to the arts while keeping the older ones well entertained. Running a little under two hours with one brief intermission, even younger audience members can handle it … and they will be riveted by the characters, spectacular sets, and certainly that amazing flying carpet.
Credits go to Director Joshua Kaufmann, Choreographer Olivia Rhoades, Musical Director Linda Venable, and Producers Debby Ash and Kyle
Kaufmann.
