In our community life blog this week, the spotlight is on a new Plymouth Michigan business: TAG Lawn Care! The owner of this company is Troy Garrett and it is his wife, Kayti, who shares a little bit about Troy and the company here in this week’s blog.
In Their Own Words
Troy Garrett, a 29-year old from Plymouth Township is someone who truly values hard work. For the past 10 years he has worked at a desk, as a Docket Specialist for an IP law firm and two different corporations. But, he comes home each day looking forward to working in his yard, on the home he shares with his wife and their two sons or whatever project he can, literally, get his hands on. In addition to his own personal projects, he has provided lawn care on the side for a few years.

Coming up on his 30th birthday, and having dreamed of owning his own business since adolescence, he has finally decided that now is the time to turn his hobby into something more. Troy loves the feeling he gets seeing the result of his hard work. In lawn care, he can best describe this feeling after that first cut in the spring, when the grass and weeds have taken over the yard and sidewalk. He looks at it as a form of artwork and feels as though he has added value to a home.
Troy values quality and is looking to provide just that to his clients for an affordable rate. He jokes that his business philosophy is:
“Do a better job than the last guy so that there won’t be a next guy!”
His top priority is to tailor his work to fit the needs of the homeowner. He knows what it is like to take pride in your yard and also in our community.
Results Speak for Themselves!
In addition to the individual homeowners and business owners who he will be providing service to, he will also be helping to keep our community beautiful. Troy will be working with quality equipment, as well as exceptional help. Troy is hoping to turn this into a family business, starting with teaming up with his cousin who is returning from the Air Force this month where he served for six years.
He grew up with the phrase “If you choose a career that you love, you will never work a day in your life” and this is exactly what Troy is trying to do. It may not be common for manual labor to be considered a dream job, but to Troy, that is exactly what it is.
