Annie Jr – On Stage at Village Theater

Now that all the buzz of Halloween is over, we can relax just a little before thinking about the next round of holidays.  And a great way to do this is to hit the local theater for some live entertainment. This weekend, Forever After Productions takes to the stage with Annie Jr. at Canton’s Village Theater, which is adjacent to the Cherry Hill Village subdivision and just west of the popular Canton subdivisions Central Park Estates and Vintage Valley.

Thanks to Director Olivia Rhoades for giving us some show details! (We popped into one of the dress rehearsals to take these photos – thanks for that too, Olivia!)

The Storyline

Annie Jr. tells the story of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

From the Director

We have nearly 140 cast members between the ages of 6 and 14. With such a large, young group, I did my best to make this a learning experience for each of them. We spent time learning the history behind Annie (it takes place during the Great Depression) as well as exploring new acting techniques and games. The entire process has been joyful, due to our wonderful group of kids and my fantastic Stage manager, Brandon Waldenmayer. This is Brandon’s first stage managing experience with FAP, but he has done several shows for other companies and is wonderful at his job. This is my third main stage musical for which I am serving as director. Past shows include The Music Man and Seussical Junior. I am also currently working on FAP’s Charlotte’s Web, which is a professional touring show.

Kudos to the families of all these kids who put in dozens of hours creating sets, costuming, marketing, and being present behind the scenes to make the show go on.

A Great Show for Little Kids!

This show is perfect for the whole family and an excellent way to introduce younger children to the arts while keeping the older ones well entertained. Running about two hours with one brief intermission, even younger audience members can handle it … and they will be riveted by the characters, colorful sets, and of course a real live Sandy that is just too cute for words!
