Here in southeast Michigan, the seasons change fairly obviously. And one of those obvious changes is the transition from summer to autumn. Yes, the sun sets earlier and the nights are cool. But it’s the flipping of the calendar and the celebration of Labor Day that marks the unofficial start to autumn.
How can we enjoy the unofficial last weekend of summer before school starts? Plenty to do (or not if you prefer)!
Farmer’s Markets!
Don’t miss them! We have great ones in the area and there’s no reason not to check out all three!

- Canton Farmer’s Market – Sundays, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Preservation Park on Ridge Road north of Cherry Hill.

Cool Stuff in Southeast Michigan
- Hit the splash playgrounds one last time!!! Check out our list of local ones.
- See this weekend’s featured film “Moonrise Kingdom” at The Penn in downtown Plymouth. All seats just $3 and there are multiple showtimes.
- Michigan Peach Festival in Romeo!
- Old St. Patrick Labor Day Festival in Ann Arbor. Food and fun for all ages!
- Check out Sundays at Mill Race Village in Northville on, you guessed it, Sunday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The historic buildings will be open and other events and activities will be happening.
And the good ole summer stuff …
- Last hurrah at the beach? Take a road trip to the west side of the state and dip into Lake Michigan. Or, if you’re really, really adventurous, head up to the U.P. and dip those toes into Lake Superior (which is surprisingly not freezing cold this summer!).
- And one of our favorite ways to spend time is to call up some friends, fire up the grill and enjoy a refreshing drink of choice in your own backyard. You can’t go wrong!
Whatever you do this weekend, we hope you have fun, stay safe, and take a moment to remember the strength and dedication of the American workforce. Enjoy!
