The Ins and Outs of Presenting Your Home

We all know the phrase, ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover.’ In terms of real estate though, this saying doesn’t always apply. Even if your home is gorgeous inside, the first thing home buyers will notice is what’s on the outside. Don’t let your home linger on the market because it doesn’t look as inviting as it could. Here are a few tips for Canton home sellers to consider:

Landscaping is a great way to get potential home buyers interested. Planting flowers is always a good idea to make your property seem welcoming. As we get closer to fall, you might consider putting cold weather plants – like pansies – along your walkway.

Several plants are good choices for the approaching cold weather and can add a nice touch of autumn color. Shrubs like Jelena witch hazel and pieris japonica do well in the fall. The buds of these flowering shrubs are red and pink, respectively. Hellebore is a very attractive white flower that grows well in the shade. Winter jasmine is a viny shrub with small yellow flowers that is quite hardy. Many people plant it along walls or trellises.

It’s important to make sure your garden and front lawn are well-maintained. Take time to remove weeds, cut back overgrown vegetation and replace wilted or dead plants.

If you have a front porch or an outdoor room, adding furniture and potted plants can give a favorable impression to potential buyers. Select furniture with neutral, floral or subdued tones. It’s also important not to create an outdoor theme that noticeably conflicts with your home’s interior.

You’ll want to make sure your porch doesn’t become over-crowded with too much furniture. Any type of clutter should be removed.
