Canton’s new pooch park is slated to open Spring 2010, yeah! Those of us who have little furry friends are so looking forward to this park.
The park will be located on Denton Road, just north of Cherry Hill, right across from the fire department and near Cherry Hill Village.
Dreams Realized for Dog Lovers and Friends of Canton Dog Park
The dog park opening would signal the culmination of a years-long dream for local organizers such as Friends of the Canton Dog Park. Debbie Greene and others have been working tirelessly and have already raised $25,000 but the goal is $60,000. The park is boosted by a $30,000 Wayne County parks grant.
Abe Vinitski, Canton parks and golf supervisor, stated that organizers hope in August to get approval from the Canton Township Board of Trustees to install a fence — potentially as early as September. Other amenities, such as providing an on-site water supply, still have to be completed.
A Great Canton Neighborhood Amenity
It sounds really cool with benches, trees and possibly a shelter…a place where owners can socialize while their pets play and make friends of their own. It will also be divided to provide separate areas for larger and smaller dogs.
The park will be supported by annual, per-family fees of $25 for Canton residents and $50 for nonresidents.
How You Can Support Canton’s Dog Park
If you’re a dog lover like we are and want to see this park flourish, please continue to support the cause. The next Heritage Park outings are scheduled for 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, July 31, and 8:30-11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1.
They ask for just a $5 donation – of course you can always give more. You also need a dog license or proof of shots is required to attend. For more information, call (734) 394-5311 or (734) 394-5310.
There may also be a fall wine-tasting fund raiser. Hmm, I wonder if Niles will like that?
