Plymouth MI Resident Will Shave Her Head

Mark your calendar for May 18th, 2014 when a very special event will be taking place at Plymouth Roc in Plymouth Michigan.  It’s head shaving.

Meet Debra Madonna

Now that we have your attention, we’d like to introduce you to Debra Madonna.  Debra is the President/Commissioner of Miracle League of Plymouth. This is an amazing organization whose motto is “Every child deserves a chance to play baseball.”  No matter what special needs a child might be facing, these folks make sure that any child who wants to will get to play baseball one way or another.  What an amazing group!  Check out their website by clicking here.

Now, back to Debra. Debra is involved with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation that raises money and awareness for childhood cancers by shaving heads.  This year, one of those heads will be her own!

It Would Change the Way I Look

Debra has supported her friends, Eric and Rachael, who are shaving their heads again for this cause this month. Here is what Debra says:

New twist though …. Eric and Rachel asked me to join them. Yikes. Be a shavee? Double yikes. I asked my son, Mark, what he thought; he said that it would change the way I look. He was right. That’s what I had been thinking about. But Mark’s words gave me the courage to participate. Changing my looks wouldn’t change who I was. It doesn’t change who anyone is. At the heart of this I will have the chance to do a little something to conquer childhood cancer and help children and their family. (I hate cancer.)

Debra Madonna Blue Streaks

Turning Blue

Debra has added blue streaks to her hair … Miracle League Blue!  Here’s why:

I added blue streaks to my hair as a kick off to the countdown. In two weeks, I’ll add a little more color to my hair. I did this, in part, to start the conversation with people I interact with so that we can talk about St Baldricks and also not worry when they see that I’ve shaved my head. Because May 3 kicks off baseball season at Miracle League, I wanted to let the families know.

Get in on it!

No, you don’t have to shave your head (unless you want to), but you can get in on the fun and the action.  Visit Debra’s participant page by clicking here.  You’ll find more information and information about making a donation. And, you can join in the fun by cheering on the 60 or so shavees, including almost a dozen women!!!

May 18, 2014, 1-5 p.m.

Plymouth Roc, 1020 W. Ann Arbor Road, Plymouth MI

Debra will be in the hot seat getting shaved between 4 and 4:30!

Good luck, Debra!  Thanks for all you do for the kids and for the community.  You’re amazing!
