Detroit Bully Corps

On this beautifully sunny, spring day in southeast Michigan, we sat around and contemplated what we could write about in this week’s blog.  Plenty of things to do in the area this weekend, not to mention a lengthy list of early spring to-dos around the house to discuss.  But, then we got an email from Lynn Boertje of Detroit Bully Corps (DBC) asking us to spread the word about a charity event coming up this weekend.  So, having never heard of this organization before, we figured we’d turn it over to Lynn and learn something new about our community too.

In Their Words

DBC is a local dog rescue organization that focusses on rescuing dogs from dog-fighting culture and promotes responsible ownership.

The foundation of our program is education. Without education, the epidemic of dog-fighting culture and irresponsible ownership will never end. Rescue is a mere bandage in the overall scale of the canine epidemic. Shelters are overrun and overflowing and society is in need of education.

For every spot DBC fills, we turn away 50!  We average 15-20 rescue canines at any given time.   The American Pit Bull Terrier comprises 90% of our rescue population. We work with canines from any and every background, whether it be a surrendered family pet, bait dogs, seasoned fighters and the abused. We are NOT a no-kill rescue/rehabilitation shelter. We are a moral, ethical and objective organization and we will NOT adopt out a canine that is a threat to society. We are advocates of the American Pit Bull Terrier, but as such we will not add to the epidemic by being irresponsible.
