Mother’s Day at Canton’s Village Theater

Happy Mother’s Day!  Looking to get out this weekend?  Take your mom or your favorite mom-like person to Canton, Michigan’s Village Theater for another stellar production by Forever After Productions (FAP):  Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

A hearty thanks to KAREN ANDREWS for these wonderful photos!

What’s it about?

FAP gives us this description of this well-known and energetic play:

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Potiphar, when thwarting advances from Potiphar’s wife lands him in jail. When news of Joseph’s gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as Elvis), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command. Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

Musical styles to suit every taste!  Nice!

Donny Osmond?!

Well, um, no.  Although Donny did star as Joseph in the Broadway production of this Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice classic for six years, he won’t be in this one.  But about 80 other young artists will be, and they will surely keep you well entertained.  We heard from one person sitting in on the dress rehearsal that “this show is awesome.”  Sounds like it may be hard to decide what part we liked the best.

Showtimes

The show runs May 11-20 with various performance times.  Check the FAP website at www.foreverafternow.com for specifics.

Rated …

“E for Everyone” – an all-ages show!  Great for date night, hanging out with the girls, and, of course, makes a great gift for moms.
