Hey Hey Hockeytown!

Any Wings fans out there?  Yeah, we’re talking about the Detroit Red Wings!

We Love Our Wings!

Sure, everybody’s got their allegiances and we won’t frown upon you if yours are elsewhere.  But, come on, you gotta feel the love!  You’re in HOCKEYTOWN!  And out here in Plymouth, Canton, and Northville Michigan, we’ve got awesome Wings fans.

Have you ever been to an NHL (National Hockey League) game?  The energy is beyond anything you can imagine.  Just being in the arena itself is exciting but when the crowd gets wound up, hold onto your hat for some serious fun.

16 Home Ice Wins In A Row … And Counting

Take, for example, the Wings game on January 21st at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.  It was a regularly scheduled home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  But, it was not just any home game.  The Wings had not lost a home game since November 3rd – that’s 15 straight wins at home and number 16 hanging in the balance.  And the sell-out crowd new it.

The game played out as any game normally would with each team having their moment ahead of the other.  Things got a little messy in the third period when Wings player Henrik Zetterberg was “ejected” from the game with a game misconduct penalty.  Columbus player Nikitin had hit the boards hard and it appeared that Zetterberg had something to do with it.

As if that wasn’t enough to liven things up, there was the score to contend with.  At the end of the third period, the score was tied at two.  A five-minute overtime period would settle things.  Right?  Not this time.  The overtime period was scoreless.  So we went to a shoot-out.  Each team had a goalie in their respective nets and each team could take one shot on the goalie until someone scored.  It went back and forth several times and it was a nail-biter!  No one in that sold-out arena of 20,000 seats was sitting down.  Not a soul!

Shoot-Out

Detroit’s fourth shooter was successful, so Columbus had one last attempt to score and keep the game running.  Our goalie, Jimmy Howard, kept it out and that clinched the victory for Detroit.  And the crowd went absolutely nuts.

Don’t Put it Off Any Longer

If you have never been to an NHL game, there is no reason to wait any longer.  The Joe Louis Arena is about 40 minutes from Plymouth/Canton/Northville and the parking is very easy.  Every imaginable concession food is available together with adult beverages if you are so inclined.  If you get there early, you can stand against the glass and watch the teams warm up.  The size and speed of the players is absolutely unreal so be sure to work it into your plans.
