We’ve Got Ice Skating Too

Well, we certainly can’t complain about how the new year has rolled in around here in Canton, Michigan and Plymouth, Michigan.  It has been so unseasonably mild you would think it was April.  Highs in the upper 40s sure can make a person long to see the trees budding and the tulips peeking through.  But, really, there is something not quite right for us Michiganders who are used to winter being, well, wintery.

One way to get just a little bit of that wintery feel is to get out and get some genuine winter exercise.  No, not golf or long walks in a light jacket (although both would work just fine in these temps!).  What we’ve got in mind is ice skating!

We checked out Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Canton.  They are located on the south side of Michigan Avenue, between Canton Center and Beck Roads.  Set a bit further back from Michigan Avenue, it looks like a fairly large building.  But inside, it’s really, really big.

Arctic Edge boasts two NHL-sized indoor rinks as well as the Velocity Sports Training facility, Orthosports Physical Therapy and a Proshop.

With several Open Skate sessions during the week and every weekend, this is a really popular place.  No skates?  No problem.  Both figure skates and hockey skates are available to rent for a small fee.  Feeling a bit peckish?  The snack bar is well stocked.  Need a break from the ice?  Gamers can check out the arcade.

And, don’t forget that it is a great place to people watch too.  You may see families, couples, or groups out for open skate or maybe a birthday party in full swing.  You will see kids, grownups, teens, a few grandparents.  You might be able to catch a hockey game on the other rink or perhaps marvel at some of the many young figure skating hopefuls who are out honing their skills that day.

Oh, and let’s not forget that the 2010 Olympic Ice Dance Champions hail from this facility and so do the 2010 Canadian Ice Dance Champions among many other prominent skaters and coaches.  Arctic Edge is also the home of many local hockey clubs for all ages.

Nah, you don’t have to be any good at this.  Every skill level is represented on the ice from the first-timer to the weekend warrior hockey dads.  You’ll fit right in – just give it a try!  Click here for more information on this local gem and their programs and schedules.

Arctic Edge Arena:  just one more cool thing that makes Canton, Michigan an awesome place to live!
